Perfect size for our first crop of this Italian/Slovenian variety that makes such amazing long lived wines.

Being the first crop we didn't want to overdo the skins bit, so just 3 weeks. Which you note in Mike Bennie's review below was not near enough time, we get it but these wine globes can make crazy texture as there's no ingress of oxygen post ferment, so you get a pretty raw tannin. We'll see, as he notes its a very nice wine but a bit underdone.

Testimonials

Here’s the sophist in me, so strap in. And I am sure the Martins of Ravensworth will probably discuss and go ‘yeah, maybe’. If you have a first crop of a distinct variety, and one that leads the world in extended skin maceration, and the doyens do minimum six months on skins, and the looooong time in barrel after, and looooooong time in bottle after, and you have 15-plus skew of cuvees as Ravensworth do, that can be releases willynilly, why not go the full potential and experiment of where the heartland style of the variety goes? Go harder, go longer! Dunno. I will have a chat with Bryan and Louis soon, for sure. No doubt. This feels a bit shortchanged. But fine.

It’s youthful as an expression, a dash of gin and tonic, a squish of jalapeno, dill pickle going on, slosh of lime and green pear. In that, a touch of the greenery descends and delivers a mainstay of personality, peppery, a bit bitter, and for the benchmarks of the variety on skins (six months in Friuili et al) maybe shortchanging the potential in squeaky over full, chalky pucker. A nice drinking experience, yes, just maybe wanting to see the further potential here. “nice”.
