2025 VCR23 Sangiovese

Again 2025 was a brilliant year. After the frost that took away almost all our own fruit in 2024, we got a bumper crop from our of our ealriest years on record. Go climate change, it's certainly making thing interesting on the farm.

This year's other project was to make two stand-alone wines from single clones of our beloved sangiovese. Not possible up to now given we needed it all for our estate release (out next year) so with the extra fruit we've singled out two clones that are quite different yet both express sangiovese in all it's glory.

VCR23 is the clone here. Selected from the Emilia-Romagna region just north-east of Tuscany. Another Italian food bowl. Chosen for it's ability to work in cooler climates. More spice than red fruits with good colour and cellarability.

Made, like it's buddy MAT7 is Italian Concrete, not that far from Emilia-Romagna. They are a great way of making wine without the distraction of oak, perfect for this project.
