Ravensworth wines.......
Ravensworth wines are grown and produced in the cool climate, high country, Canberra District. The 7ha vineyard is situated in the district’s heartland, Murrumbateman; taking advantage of the regions persistent cool nights, dry autumn with moderate harvest temperatures and volcanic, granite soils.

Ravensworth production focuses on varieties that suit these continental conditions - mainly Shiraz, Sangiovese, Marsanne, Viognier and Riesling.

The winemaking utilises small batch production, natural fermentation, high quality French coopered oak and careful blending.

More about our vineyard

Settled in the heart of the Canberra wine district, our seven hectare vineyard was planted from 1998 to 2001 with the following varieties Shiraz (2.5Ha); Viognier (1.5ha); Sangiovese (0.7ha); Marsanne (0.5ha); Riesling (0.5ha); Cab blend (0.3ha); and Sauvignon Blanc (1ha).

Our focus is on super premium Shiraz with over a third of our vineyards now planted to various clones of this variety (PT23, 1127 & Best's old block).
The vineyard is planted on the rich volcanic soils of the region, friable clay loams over decomposing granites. This soil profile has good water holding capacity and is well drained and oxygen rich - ideally suited to premium grape growing, particularly full bodied wines like Shiraz and Marsanne. Murrumbateman has a Mediterraneanish climate of wet winter/spring, dry summer/autumn and an elevation of over 650m above sea level, giving persisient cool nights - all qualities that add up to one of the most suited terroir for growing high quality cool climate fruit.
