2007 Shiraz Viognier

An exceptional vintage of this wine.. Dark smoky tannins and a beautiful earthy perfume

We're very pleased with this one, a classic Canberra SV. It has won  "top gold, best Canberra shiraz" at the 2009 Wine Wise Small Vignerons awards (to add to the gold it got there in 2008 as well). In fact it was a contender for top australian shiraz (coming second in the end). This is one that can be laid down for as long as you like, but is fantastic drinking now. Just decant, or drink it over a couple of nights..

..savoury earthy notes and toasty grilled nut complexity. It's
cool and measured. The palate reveals some terrific power
and richness; fine tannins precipitate down through rich
plum and cherry flavours, finishing with toasty oak char.

Nick Stock - The Penguin Good Australian Wine Guide 2009

Quite perfumed viognier smelling - some rose lipstick -
plus deep, raisin sourdough. Builds ginger spice and prosciutto
with air. A complex nose. Attacks tight and chewy, building
nut and peel panforte-like flavours. Creamy down the middle
and enveloped in balancing brick-dusty tannins.
This is one of the best-value reds of the year. 94(95)/100, $30.

2008 Marsanne

Marsanne and Murrumbateman, a great combination as it turns out. This is a complex but elegant white. A great food wine, even for cuisine where a white might normally fear to tread.. Restrained on the nose, fantastic in the mouth, what more can I say?

"pretty much at the top of the tree in Australian terms for this variety”

Campbell Mattinson - The Wine Front

Already very complex and full of character... It's luscious, round and creamy, with a mouthfilling and slightly viscous presence of nutty, stonefruit flavours bound by tight, lightly mineral acids. It finishes quite savoury, with length, brightness and lingering nutty influences”

2008 Sangiovese

The tradition continues! Wearing a new label but continuing to show Canberra's ability to express this cheerful Italian varietal. Yes it does go very well with lasagne, in case you were wondering. Garlic bread a must.

“The aroma’s appropriately hand waving, ebullient Italian – bursting bright, fruity and friendly from the glass. The palate starts with the same dazzling, fresh charm. But there’s a deeper undercurrent of firm, gripping tannin, giving the wine an enjoyable, savoury, bone-dry grip.”

Chris Shanahan - The Canberra Times

"It's a sour, savoury, nutty wine with long chalky tannin and an excellent, medium-bodied (at most) juiciness ... a juicy, savoury red that is well worth hooking into. I really like this”

Campell Mattinson - The Wine Front

“Lean and stylish….It's vibrant, juicy and moderately long, with sweet flavours of cherries, plums and berries knit with fine tannins and wrapped in a fresh acidity, finishing with depth and length”

Jeremy Oliver

“This might be my favourite Ravensworth sangiovese to date. Firm on the finish, with black cherry and dried-spice character, it makes me wish I was eating an Italian pork sausage laden with fennel seeds, black pepper and served in a tomato-based sauce. It's not a certain crowd pleaser, but it's one for wine lovers and foodies alike. 5 Stars”

2008 Viognier

"Spice, green apples, perhaps a spot of ginger - this is a nice ‘drop’”

Campbell Mattinson - The Wine Front

“These amazingly good whites cement Bryan Martin’s place as one of Canberra’s best winemakers… deep, complex and fresh ... delicious white peach and nectarine”

Chris Shanahan - The Canberra Times

2008 Riesling

2008 was one of the best year's to date for this delicate variety: an early budburst and spring rains set a good sized crop. Cool summer temperatures gently ripened the fruit, maintaining a crisp acidity and delicate flavours.

"Another superb Canberra District Riesling from the cool 2008 vintage that shows precision and clarity. Striking mineral quality to the nose, quite savoury and elegant, the palate is crisply restrained, holding gentle apple and lime flavour with a squeeze of lemon through the finish"
