Hilltops Barberra

Back to Esoteric Wines

I wouldn't go so far as to say this is particularly weird any more, Barbera, as a variety, makes perfect sense, ticks all the right boxes:

  • Barbera grows almost anywhere, plant it in concrete and it would still have a crack at producing fruit

  • Chemically, it's an easy wine to make as it has a great acid balance

  • Doesn't require any bells and whistles like new oak, bunches or time is the cellar to work itself out

  • Leans toward more savoury characters rather than being a fruit bomb

  • It's an Italian word that is easy to say, unlike chiacchiericcio, which funnily enough means idle chitchat
